Career Summary:
Jo is a chartered accountant with 6 years relevant business rescue and turnaround experience.
Having trained at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in London and Gatwick and worked in the Business Recovery Services division for three years, Jo joined TMP in July 2008 in their Cape Town office.
Chapter 6 in the new Companies Act legislation in South Africa will provide for the first corporate rescue legislation, bringing South Africa in line with International standards. At present there are only a handful of people with the necessary skills, qualifications and experience to undertake business rescue projects in South Africa. Jo is responsible for building this part of the South African practice whilst also managing the Cape Town office which provides back-office support for UK insolvency cases.
Jo is also involved in the analysis and management of special projects and restructurings and has expertise in programming and modelling in Excel.
Jo passed the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (“CPI”) exam in 2007 in the UK. Jo intends to sit the AIPSA (Association of Insolvency Practitioners in South Africa) correspondence course on South African insolvency legislation in 2011. Jo has been invited to guest lecturer in the School of Management Studies at the University of Cape Town, and will be lecturing a post-graduate finance module in 2011.
Out of Office:
Jo is passionate about cricket and has qualifications in both umpiring and scoring and has been a member of Western Province Cricket Club for the past 16 years. Jo is affiliated with Cuckfield Cricket Club in England since scoring for their 2nd XI in 2006/7/8.
Apart from cricket, Jo is an accomplished pianist and is learning the guitar. During school term, Jo tutors accounting and maths on a Saturday in Masiphumelele township.
